Airbnb partners with Visit Finland to list Santa Claus’ Cabin
Those seeking a unique Airbnb experience for this holiday season can now book an exclusive cabin near Santa’s Official Post Office in the Arctic Circle. Located in the Finnish town of Rovaniemi, Finland, it’s the world’s only official post office for Santa —and since its opening in the 1980s now receives more than 30,000 letters daily from children and adults around the world in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
It’s a serious business fully staffed by elves but as Santa’s famously dedicated little helpers are rushed off their feet, the campaign hook is a recruitment drive for novice elves to fly to Finland and lend a hand.
And while the accommodation is free of charge, guests must earn their keep by working at Santa’s Official Post Office under the supervision of Head Elf, Katya. Duties include helping to sort through the letters — cross referencing with Santa Claus’ naughty and nice list —and stamping the post with the special Arctic Circle postmark before it goes to Santa Claus.
The lucky novices will also be treated to traditional Finnish meals, a snowmobile activity, a trip to see the northern lights and, the most Finnish experience of all, a traditional sauna.
How to book
The exclusive stay in Finland will be available for 3 nights from 18-21 December 2023. Booking for this fantastically festive stay opens December 11 at 12pm EET at airbnb.com/santa.
The stay is suitable for up to two adults and two children, and will be free of charge, with breakfast and dinner included.
Guests will also receive complimentary return flights and transfers to Rovaniemi from London Heathrow Airport via Finnair, and all activities, courtesy of Visit Finland.
And for those not able to book this exclusive stay, Airbnb has launched an Arctic Category, a new filter that makes it easy to discover igloos, cabins and more, in the Arctic Circle.
To raise awareness of children with special needs, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to Special Children’s Omaiset ELO, a peer support association for Lappish children and young people with special needs and their loved ones.
